For 14 years, Paweł Mateńczuk served as an operator in GROM’s combat team, taking part in some of the most demanding special operations. He spent a significant part of his service abroad – in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf, where he participated in real combat missions. Before passing the rigorous GROM selection, he was a soldier of the 1st Special Commando Regiment and took part in a UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. Honors and Awards For his service and acts of bravery, he received Poland’s highest military decorations, including:

• Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Military Cross – awarded to those distinguished in combat,

• Commander’s Cross of the Order of the Military Cross – awarded for exceptional courage and heroism combined with risking one’s life,

• GROM Gold Badge – the highest honor within the unit.
